Worst Fumbles in NFL History

Three-Peat Ruined

The 49ers were going for their third consecutive Super Bowl win in the 1990 season. They started the year 10-0, finished 14-2 and reached the NFC Championship against the New York Giants. The Giants, who were playing without starting quarterback Phil Simms, knocked out Joe Montana as well. The 49ers still held a 13-12 lead with three minutes to go when running back Roger Craig was hit by the Giants' Erik Howard behind the line of scrimmage, resulting in a fumble. Lawrence Taylor fell on it to give the Giants possession. The 49ers offense could only watch as the Giants drove down the field, kicked the winning field goal and dashed the 49ers' hopes of a three-peat. (AP Photo/Amy Sancetta)
