Black Sox Scandal

While "Shoeless" Joe Jackson is revered for his talents on the field, it was his association with one of the most infamous fixes in sports history that he’s often remembered. Jackson, along with seven White Sox teammates, were paid $100,000 by a betting syndicate to throw the 1919 World Series. Jackson and his teammates were banned after the 1920 season and the conspiracy was the inspiration for Eliot Asinof’s book “Eight Men Out.” (AP Photo)
