3. LSU, 1986
The Tigers entered as the No. 11 seed but had the luxury of playing the first two games at home, leading to a rule change ensuring neutral sites. That advantage helped LSU survive the first weekend but doesn't in any way diminish their upsets of No. 2 seed Georgia Tech and top-seeded Kentucky the next week. Coached by Dale Brown, the Tigers rode John Williams and their confounding "Freak Defense" to the Final Four before falling to eventual champion Louisville.
