Forbes.com: The Most Valuable Super Bowls

The Most Valuable Super Bowls

CBS, FOX and NBC share the rights to the Super Bowl, and the three networks rely on the championship game to generate millions of dollars in advertising revenue annually. We ranked the ten Super Bowls that created the most value for the networks that aired them.

Nine of the last ten Super Bowls make our list; the Patriots' 2002 victory over the Rams edged out the 2003 Buccaneers-Raiders tilt for the final spot. The ten most valuable Super Bowls have generated a total $1.7 billion in advertising revenue. NBC has aired the two most valuable championships, this year's Patriots-Giants game and Steelers-Cardinals in 2009.

We used the inflation-adjusted average cost of a 30-second ad spot and the total number of commercials each year to calculate each Super Bowl's total value.
