One too many second half collapses finally caught up to Lovie Smith.
According to CSNChicago.com and other sources, new general manager Phil Emery fired Smith based on a “body of work” that didn’t quite amount to a contract extension after the Bears missed yet another postseason in the final week. In nine years as head coach, Smith reached the playoffs just three times, and only once in the past six seasons. He leaves Chicago with a career record of 81-63. (AP Photo/Nam Y. Huh)
