The Bulldogs have not been impressive at all this season … aside from WR A.J. Green. The sophomore caught eight balls for 153 yards and a TD and blocked a late field-goal attempt, which in turn allowed the Bulldogs to kick a FG of their own for the win as time ran out. “That’s got to be my best play ever,” Green said. “That tops all the catches.” Still, Georgia looks like its heading into Saturday’s clash with LSU grossly over-matched. The offense continues to sizzle under new OC Gus Malzahn. QB Chris Todd hit on his first eight passes and finished 19-of-26 with career highs of 287 yards and five TDs. Todd has now thrown for nine TDs in his last two games, the offense has topped the 500-yard mark three times this season and Auburn has put up more than 40 points in each of its last three games. Last week, I wrote: “Coach Jeff Tedford needs to do everything in his power to keep his team from looking ahead to next week’s showdown with USC.” But there’s a huge difference between looking ahead and failing to show up. Well, there goes that Jevan Snead-for-Heisman talk. The QB was just 7-of-21 for 107 yards and a TD in a terrible showing for the Rebels’ offense. But what’s important for the Rebels to remember is that the loss will only derail their SEC title hopes if they let it. One way to prove it won’t – grab a resounding victory at Vanderbilt this week. 16. Iowa (4-0) Previous Rank: NR; Last Week: W, at Penn State, 21-10
Welcome back, Hawkeyes. I had Iowa at No. 18 in my preseason rankings but dropped them completely after the near-loss to Northern Iowa in the opener (good thing Iowa got those two FG blocks at the end of that game). 15. Miami (2-1) Previous Rank: 9; Last Week: L, at Virginia Tech, 31-7
Jacory Harris is as upstanding when he loses as when he wins. “I take all the blame for what happened,” Harris said. The sophomore QB, who remained humble after drawing high praise during his strong start, stumbled mightily against VaTech’s staunch defense. The Pokes’ loss to Houston is looking better and better each week. Meanwhile, they keep piling up the points – scoring 97 in back-to-back victories since the setback. 13. Houston (3-0... Previous Rank: NR; Last Week: W, Texas Tech, 29-28
Apparently, Houston is still ticked off that it wasn’t invited to join the Big 12. The Cougars dumped their second straight opponent from the conference’s South Division to jump into the BCS conversation. QB Case Keenum keeps playing like a Big 12 signal-caller, finishing 38-of-58 for 453 yards and a score – he also ran for the TD that capped a 95-yard drive late in the fourth. (AP Photo/David J. With everyone saying the Pac-10 was a race between USC and Cal, Oregon QB Jeremiah Masoli shook off a series of poor performances by throwing for 253 yards and three TDs as the Ducks hammered the Bears. While everyone has penciled in Boise State as this year’s BCS-buster, TCU is quietly climbing the rankings and enhancing its credentials. The Horned Frogs held Clemson to just 117 total yards in the second half and scored early in the fourth quarter to pull out the win in Death Valley. Maybe that QB battle in the preseason wasn’t that much of a battle after all. The Trojans looked like a much different team with QB Matt Barkley back at the helm. Sooners fans probably panicked when they heard that QB Sam Bradford was visiting with Dr. James Andrews last week. But he reportedly made the trip to get clearance to play from the renowned orthopedic surgeon and not because the injury isn’t responding to rehab. 7. Cincinnati (4... Previous Rank: 12; Last Week: W, Fresno State, 28-20
The Bearcats had the ball for just over 16 minutes on offense, but that was enough time for QB Tony Pike to throw three TD passes and put some points on the board. Ah, but the reason Cincinnati’s defense was on the field for almost the entire game: Fresno State rushed for 290 yards, allowing the Bulldogs to put together five drives that went for 10 plays or more. 6. LSU (4-0) Previous Rank: 8; Last Week: W, at Mississippi State, 30-26
The Tigers have yet to impress, but they continue to squeak out wins – this time with a goal-line stand to thwart the upset-minded Bulldogs. “When we play sloppy, we let the other team hang around,” coach Les Miles said. “We put our opponents in a great position when we make [mistakes]. VaTech answered the call in a big way, reminding everyone who still reigns supreme in the ACC. 1. Florida (4-0) Previous Rank: 1; Last Week: W, at Kentucky, 41-7
The Gators saw their season flash before their eyes when QB Tim Tebow suffered a concussion on a hard hit from Kentucky DE Taylor Wyndham. Coach Urban Meyer said Sunday that Tebow is doing fine after spending Saturday night in a Kentucky hospital. “Our medical and athletic training staff will continue to monitor him to determine how much rest and recovery he needs,” Meyer said. Dropped Out: Florida State (2-2) Previous Rank: 21; Last Week: L, South Florida, 17-7
I don’t understand this team. After taking Miami to the wire, the Seminoles struggle at home against Jacksonville State, blow BYU out on the road and then lose at home to a South Florida team that is breaking in a new QB.
North Carolina (3-1) Previous Rank: 23; Last Week: L, at Georgia Tech, 24-7
The Tar Heels managed just 154 yards of offense and allowed 406 in a humbling loss to the Yellow Jackets. “We’ve got to take a long look at ourselves,” coach Butch Davis said. I’ll keep you out of the rankings while you’re looking in the mirror.
BYU (2-1) Previous Rank: 25; Last Week: W, Colorado State, 42-23

On the radar: Missouri (4-0) QB Blaine Gabbert passed for 414 yards and three TDs as the Tigers kept rolling with a 31-21 win over Nevada. The sophomore has completed 66 percent of his passes (87-of-131) for 1,161 yards, 11 TDs without an INT this season. He and the Tigers now get a week and a half to prepare for a Thursday night showdown with Nebraska.
Georgia Tech (3-1) The offense rushed for 317 yards and held onto the ball for a shade over 42 minutes, while the defense employed a new scheme that held North Carolina to just 154 total yards in the 24-7 win.
