Not believing the Governors could win, ESPN analyst Dick Vitale said he would stand on his head if they pulled off the upset. Well, they did, stunning the Fightin’ Illini in the opening round. 8. Hampton over ... In 2001, the No. 15 Hampton Pirates were up against a No. 2 Iowa State team featuring future first-round NBA picks Marcus Fizer and Jamaal Tinsley. 3. Texas Western... Texas Western, now UTEP, was the first team to have a starting lineup of five African-American players in 1966. In a tourney field of 22 teams, Western did the unthinkable when it upset national powerhouse Kentucky in the championship game. Their triumphant 1966 season was the basis for the film "Glory Road." 2. Villanova ove... The 1985 championship game between Villanova and Georgetown seemed a lopsided matchup on paper. The Hoyas had future pros in Patrick Ewing, Reggie Williams and David Wingate, and had already defeated Villanova twice in the regular season. The Wildcats kept things close in the second half and ended the game shooting a remarkable 78.6 percent from the floor. The Georgetown dynasty lost once again in the championship game, 66-64.
