Forbes: Ads Too Hot For The Super Bowl

GoDaddy.com has had several of its spots rejected for featuring too much sexual suggestiveness, but last year's "Lola" ad ran into a different problem. It was about a fictional football player who becomes a fashion designer. The character, a flamboyant gay stereotype, was too much for CBS.

Politically Inco... This year Fox, which is televising the Super Bowl, turned down a spot from JesusHatesObama, a website that sells humorous merchandise with conservative messages. The commercial shows a Jesus Christ bobblehead doll watching as a Barack Obama bobblehead falls into a fishbowl.

Cheaters Never W... Fox also knocked down a spot from AshleyMadison.com, a dating service for married people looking to cheat. The absurdist clip features a porn star, a man in a bunny suit and what appears to be a capybara.

Skin, But No Mea... People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, or PETA, often pushes the limits of taste in its advertising, and a 2009 spot was no exception: It showed mostly naked women cavorting with vegetables in an attempt to convey the message that vegetarianism is sexy. NBC said no.

Apology Not Acce... Bud Light's 2007 "Apology-Bot 3000" commercial wasn't all that racy, really--it featured a boyfriend using technology to make amends for selling a sex tape--but CBS was taking no chances. Things turned out all right for the beer maker, though--the spot's been viewed almost 3 million times on YouTube.

Painfully Funny A 2008 Rolling Rock commercial set at a baseball game revolved around the lowest form of humor known to man: dudes getting hit in the crotch, in this case by a ricocheting foul ball. But had it not ended with a particularly suggestive bit of imagery--two baseballs and a beer bottle in an instantly recognizable configuration--it might have made the cut.

Macho Makeout ManCrunch, a dating site for gay men, tried to appeal to sports fans last year with some football humor: Male partisans of two rival teams go in an instant from trash-talking to lip-locking. Gun-shy CBS turned it down, leading to complaints that the network was discriminating against gays.

Mechanical Failu... After CBS shot down the ManCrunch ad, many speculated that a controversial 2007 Snickers commercial was to blame. It showed two mechanics briefly touching lips while co-eating a candy bar. The mechanics' shame over the accidental kiss struck many observers as homophobic, and Snickers pulled the ad.

Oh, Mickey You can argue all day about whether a commercial is too risqué or too political, but in 2005, Fox made a decision that's hard to disagree with: No one should have to look at Mickey Rooney's elderly tuchus. An ad for Airborne that showed just that got dinged.
