| 2012 marks the 40th anniversary of Title IX—the law that prohibits girls from being excluded from team sports based on their gender. This year we’ve also reached another monumental milestone: For the first time in the history of the games, women outnumber men on the U.S. Olympic Team! From household names, like Serena and Venus to brand new soon-to-be stars that are barely 16, here’s a round-up of the women that will be representing the red, white and blue beginning on July 27th. | Age: 16 “Sweet Sixteen” seems to be Team USA’s motto! McKayla is one of three 16-year-old gymnasts competing in the 2012 games. | Age: 18 We love this full-time gymnast, part-time fashionista-in-training! London has been a long time coming for Raisman. She filmed “Quest for Gold,” documenting her competitions over the past year and her bid for a spot on Team USA. | Age: 15 The youngest gymnast rounding-out this all-star team, Kyla Ross, is matured well beyond her years. | Age: 17 Missy has been deemed the ‘Michael Phelps’ of women’s swimming – we can’t even imagine the pressure on this 17-year-old! The current world record-holder for the 200-meter back stroke, she and Phelps have the same goal of seven gold medals. | Age: 29 Natalie will mark London as her third and final Olympic games. She left Beijing and Athens as the most decorated female athlete – in total she’s racked up 11 Olympic medals (3 are gold!) Coughlin's competitive Olympic career formally ends on the first day of the London Games since she is only competing in one race. But she’ll be present throughout cheering on her teammates.
