| Michelle Obama is ready for her close-up. Her understated pre-White House bob has evolved, with the help of hairstylist Johnny Wright, into an array head-turning styles that are camera-ready but never over-the-top. After all, although the flashbulbs and the fame are a relatively recent development, the First Lady is no stranger to attention. As Mrs. Obama told People, "[Growing up] I had a father and a brother who thought I was beautiful, and they made me feel that way every single day." 1971: Barrettes and a brain: Michelle LaVaughn Robinson attended the gifted program at Chicago's Bryn Mawr Elementary School. | No short crop here! "I'm a big fan of what I call the up-tuck," her hairstylist Johnny Wright told us. "You pin-up all the hair in the back, and then let the front fall naturally. It's like you've gotten a haircut." (CREDIT: Kevin Mazur/WireImage for Time Inc) More of Michelle Obama's Transformation |

| "I like updos that look very simple and natural," Wright said. "People try to make their hair a little too perfect with updos, and that's where it goes wrong. Honestly, the messier the better."
