Most forms of yoga don’t make you break a sweat but that doesn’t mean that getting your “Om” on won’t make you slim. A recent study from the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle found that people who practiced yoga regularly had lower body mass indexes than non-yogis. What’s more, in a previous study, the researchers found that yogis were less likely to gain weight over a 10-year period, regardless of their physical activity levels and eating habits. Researchers aren’t sure why, but point out that yoga is a proven stress reliever, and stress hormones such as cortisol have been linked to higher levels of belly fat and body weight.
