The holiday season is upon us, with more than a few revelers regrettably getting behind the wheel when they should instead be calling a cab or relying on a designated driver.

Insurance.com just released its list of the largest cities that have the highest percentage of DUI (driving under the influence) citations in the nation, and it seems nobody parties like they do in California. No less than four major cities in the Golden State ranked among the top 10 tipplers, including San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Jose.

10. Phoenix Fortunately, unlike the mythical character, Phoenix is not rising, at least not in the rankings of cities with the most DUI citations. For 2011 it ranks in 10th place, down from the fourth highest position in 2010.

9. Columbus People may be staying (or at least drinking) closer to home in Columbus this year, as Ohio's largest city falls to ninth place among top DUI cities this year from the fifth position in 2010.

8. Fort Worth This Texas town takes a big leap in the top DUI rankings for 2011, up from 14th place a year ago.

7. San Jose Do you know the way to San Jose? Apparently it's via designated driver this year, as this home to high-tech giants falls to seventh place among top DUI cities from its number two perch in 2010.

6. Charlotte Charlotte residents are sobering up and/or getting wiser and staying off the streets after having one too many, as the home of the NASCAR museum dropped to sixth place after finishing third in 2010.
