iVillage.com: The Biggest Health Trends of 2013

Group Personal Training and Back-to-Basics Calisthenics

If one of your reasons for not exercising regularly has been a lack of funds, get ready to cross that off your excuse list this year! Getting fit has never been more affordable. Personal training in small groups is one of the top 10 fitness trends for 2013, according to both the American College of Sports Medicine and the American Council on Exercise. “Small-group personal training is growing quite rapidly,” Bryant says, and it’s no surprise – it's a more affordable way to get personal attention without the higher price tag. Plus, it can be less intimidating to train in a small group since the spotlight isn’t just on you, Bryant explains.

And forget forking over big bucks to join a gym filled with fancy equipment or buying home exercise gadgets. Bodyweight training, or using your own body as resistance (cost: $0!), is also a hot fitness trend. According to Bryant, there's going to be a return to tried-and-true calisthenics, like pushups, squats and lunges.
