The Beatles, "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds"
It’s odd that such a surreal song would have such a matter-of-fact inspiration. As it turns out, this spacey Lennon tune was named after a little girl named Lucy O’Donnell who shared a nursery school class with Julian Lennon. One day in 1966, the younger Lennon came home toting a drawing of his classmate describing her as "in the sky with diamonds." That was apparently all the fodder the elder Lennon needed. —Jeff Royer
