There was a time when Nine Inch Nails was branded as the band that would lead an entire generation of children into a dark, bottomless pit of self-loathing, amorality and contempt. Trent Reznor didn’t mind; it helped him sell records. Parents find him much less scary, however, now that the clean-cut, hyper-intelligent Reznor is sauntering around in tuxes and picking up Golden Globes and Oscars for his work as a film composer (“The Social Network”). —Jeff Royer
