Rock's Saxiest Moments

“Baker Street,” Gerry Rafferty

Gerry Rafferty’s haunting 1978 hit, since covered by everyone from the Foo Fighters to the London Symphony Orchestra, is one of a handful of rock hits to be more famous for a saxophone riff than guitar or vocals. Sax player Raphael Ravenscroft was paid 27 British pounds for the “Baker Street” recording session, via a check that bounced. —Jeff Royer
