Why They Deserve It: These cross-dressing gents are almost as famous for the bands they inspired as the music they made. They are credited for influencing a score of new wave bands and glam-metal acts, and are considered the precursor for the late ‘70s American punk movement. They were also among the first players in the New York scene that eventually spawned bands like the Ramones, Blondie and Talking Heads. —Jeff Royer
