'Idols' Who Walked Away

David Archuleta

Archuleta rocketed to fame in 2008 as the runner-up to David Cook on the seventh season of “Idol.” Four years later, the 21-year-old devout Mormon stunned fans stunned fans by announcing a two-year hiatus from music in order to serve a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

"It's not because someone told me I was supposed to do it, and not because I no longer want to do music anymore," a tearful Archuleta told fans during a December 2011 concert. "But it's because it's the feeling of what I feel I need to do next in my life.”-Xfinity Music Programmers
