2. Lady Gaga
Gaga spent the latter half of 2011 basically underscoring the fact that she is obscenely, colossally famous, as evidenced by the fact that she was given her own two-hour special on Thanksgiving night. From her drag performance at the MTV Video Music Awards to her jazzy duet with Tony Bennett to her serenade for Bill Clinton at his 65th birthday bash, Mother Monster tossed aside Madonna’s playbook for a few moments to remind fans and critics alike that 1) behind those meat dresses and space eggs was a massively talented singer and songwriter, and 2) she’s going to use that massive talent in whatever way she sees fit. —Jeff Royer
