15. Jennifer Hudson
Jennifer Hudson is beloved as a fighter and a survivor who overcame personal tragedy to reshape herself (both literally and figuratively) as an empowered diva. She’s buddies with the President and has a resume that includes gigs at the Grammys, the Super Bowl and an endless stream of Weight Watchers commercials. She’s also got an Oscar on her mantel to mark just how far she’s come since her early dismissal from “American Idol.” And yet, for as much as she us universally loved, her music career remains lukewarm. People love her and love to hear her sing, but simply don’t buy her albums or request her songs on the radio. Until she can flex some muscle on the charts, she will remain boxed out of the upper echelon of divahood. —Jeff Royer
