5. Katy Perry

Perry spent most of 2011 watching her juggernaut of an album, “Teenage Dream,” continue to smash records. It became only the second album in history to yield five No. 1 singles (joining Michael Jackson’s “Bad”) and kept Perry on the Billboard Hot 100 charts for a record-breaking 69 consecutive weeks. Her public split with hubby Russell Brand notwithstanding, Perry is enjoying a victory lap in 2012 that's included the release of her first video game, "The Sims 3: Katy Perry's Sweet Treats," and, later this week, the documentary concert film "Katy Perry: Part of Me."—Jeff Royer
