Music's Biggest Lawsuits

RIAA vs. 12-Year-Old Girl

In 2003, The Recording Industry Association of America filed lawsuits against 261 individuals for copyright infringement, including a twelve-year-old honors student in New York. Copyright violators can be held liable for up to $150,000 per song but the girl's mother agreed to pay $2,000 to settle the lawsuit.—Xfinity Music Programmers (AP Photo/EyePress)
