National Day of Participation For Lunar Exploration (July 21, 1969)

To celebrate the arrival of Apollo 11 on the moon's surface, President Nixon gave the country the day off. NYSE closed accordingly. "We on earth will want, as one poeple to be with in spirit," Nixon told Americans in a televised address, "to be with them in spirit; to share the glory and the wonder; and to support them with prayers and that all will go well." It did. Neil Armstrong began the lunar exploration as the nation watched.
