| "I adore being girlie," December cover girl Taylor Swift told InStyle. And with a red-carpet repertoire that includes sparkling dresses, metallic shadows and her signature spiral curls, there's no reason to doubt her. However, this 20-year-old has grit enough to justify the title of her hit second album, Fearless. Famously, her lyrics are inspired by real-life heartache. "Vulnerability and honesty are themes in my music," she told us. It's no wonder, then, that when Kanye West interrupted her VMA acceptance speech, she reacted with poise and humor in both backstage interviews and during her hosting gig on SNL. And, although she loves her Chanel Inimitable mascara and NARS Dragon Girl lip color, she has said: "It's important to be comfortable with who you are and go natural once in a while." Clearly, Swift is as wise a woman as she is girlie a girl. 2005: The Hendersonville High freshman had the tiara, but didn't feel like a princess until she left to begin recording her first album. "I really don't miss much about high school," she said during her homeschool days, "because the moment I'm in right now is like waking up in a dream." | A loose updo and subtle shadow played up her baby blues, remedying her main makeup anxiety: "I have blonde eyelashes and blonde eyebrows, so my typical insecurity is that my eyes go away when I don't have makeup on." (Photo: Celebrity Photo) See What's Right Now at InStyle.com |
| Swift stayed classic for the Grammy Awards with her favorite cat-eye liner. “I used MAC smolder pencil eyeliner followed by MAC Liquidlast in Pointblack,” said her makeup artist, Lorrie Turk. (Photo: Landov) See What's Right Now at InStyle.com |

| Swift launched her second album, "Fearless," and tried out a sophisticated (and straight-haired!) style, along with soft coral shades. "I thought color on her lips and cheeks would be pretty with her ivory and black dress," said her makeup artist, Lorrie Turk. (Photo: Celebrity Photo) See What's Right Now at InStyle.com |
| With a hit album, a clothing line with Walmart and a completed appearance in 2010's "Valentine's Day," one would think Swift would have developed diva tastes. Not so, as she told InStyle: "Starbucks' Iced Caramel Lattes, McFlurries and black eyeliner—without them I would be powerless!" (Photo: Retna) See What's Right Now at InStyle.com |
| Highlights from a memorable year: an unforgettable appearance on the VMAs (with unexpected guest star Kanye West), a much-lauded hosting gig with "SNL," an "Entertainer of the Year" award from the Country Music Association and her 20th birthday.
