20 Greatest Sitcom Characters of All Time

4. Fred Sanford (Redd Foxx), 'Sanford and Son'

Fred G. Sanford is the irritable owner of Sanford and Son, a Los Angeles-area junk and antique shop, which he runs with his son Lamont. Fred constantly torments his son, calling him a "big dummy," ruining his love life and guilting him into taking over the family business. Sanford often feigns heart attacks to get his way and calls out to his deceased wife. "I'm coming to join you, Elizabeth!"
