Ward said the first step to achieving beachy locks (like Kate Upton's, pictured here) was finding the right product. "I used more or less the same recipe--on all the girls I dampened the hair to medium wet applied the Living Proof Full Mousse" (Living Proof Full Thickening Mousse, 5.0 oz for $24 at livingproof.com). After brushing the mousse through medium wet hair, Ward said the trick was not to brush it or comb it again, but rather to take two to three square-inch sections of hair and clip them up to air dry. "We also did a glamorous look," Ward said, of hair like Chrissy Tiegen's, pictured left. For this look, he used a 3/4 inch curling iron to curl two to three square-inch sections (depending on how thick the hair is). "I sectioned off the hair with my fingers so they weren’t perfectly straight," he said. "The whole idea is a relaxed attitude so you have to use a relaxed technique and not work too precisely. The looser and messier you do, the better.” (CREDIT: Courtesy of Sports Illustrated) See the Full Story
“The goal of look was body, which is required for a beachy look," Ward told us. He said that after putting the Full Thickening Mousse in, the best way to achieve body was was to play with it--like Esti Ginzburg, pictured left, does here. "Full mousse has interactive volume that you can play with--the more you touch it the more volume you get," he said. "But the Full Mousse also has a hold build in. It's one-step shopping!" Murphy said one of the most important elements was achieving a bronzed look, like Julie Henderson, pictured left. "Even with the girls that came tan, I made sure everyone was three shades darker," she told us. To get the best faux glow, Murphy recommended St. Tropez bronzers and self-tanners ($15 to 65 at sttropeztan.com) to achieve a bronzed body without the harmful results. "Giving the girls a tropical look was really important for me because everything changes: the eyes get bright and the teeth get white," she said. "This year we did false lashes, which we never do," Murphy said. But instead of using a strip of fake lashes, Murphy used individual lashes, only at the outside corner to elongate the eye and open it bit, so eyes achieve a winged look, like Genevieve Morton's, pictured left. Murphy said Ardell brand lashes were a good choice for everyday use (Ardell DuraLash Naturals, $3.49 at drugstore.com). (CREDIT: Courtesy of Sports Illustrated) See the Full Story
Another way to open up the face was to create bold 'brows, as seen on Alyssa Miller, pictured left. "We brushed up the eyebrows and coiffed them in place," Murphy told us. "Mac makes a good eyebrow gel that sets them in place--it’s fundamentally the eyebrow equivalent of hair spray." Try MAC's Brow Set, $15 at maccosmetics.com. Although Anne V, left, has natural freckles, Murphy said she added additional ones on her, as well as the rest of the models, to achieve a playful look. "I did a lot of extra freckles across the nose and cheeks," Murphy said. "She’s so fresh-faced, freckled and sexy." And use a brow pencil to get the look. "Revlon makes the little red pencils that you can get in drug stores that are light brown," she said (Revlon, $5 at drugstores nationwide). "They're the perfect freckle color so we used that on everybody." (CREDIT: Courtesy of Sports Illustrated) See the Full Story
