Though allegiances were often questioned, Snape showed himself to be a true ally of Albus Dumbledore and good wizards everywhere. If not for Snape, who was the former Potions Master, Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher and Headmaster at Hogwarts, many more young witches and wizards might have died during the Second Wizarding War.
