Speech at the Gr...The march in Detroit, commonly known as "The Walk to Freedom," occurred on June 23rd, 1963. Thousands of civil rights activists marched through Detroit singing and demanding the end of segregation. MLK then delivered a speech at Cobo Hall stressing that it was their duty to take part in the walk to freedom and participate in other demonstrations in order to end the era of racism and inequality. —XFINITY Entertainment Staff

'I Have a Dream'MLK's "I Have a Dream" speech was delivered on August 28, 1963 where he demanded an end to racism in the United States. With over 250,000 people in attendance, the speech became his most famous commentary and it was a defining moment in the American Civil Rights Movement. Nobel Peace Priz...MLK received a Nobel Peace Prize on October 14, 1964 for his continued effort to stop racism by using non-violent methods. MLK was just 35 when he was awarded the prize -- the youngest person to ever receive this prestigious award. In his speech, MLK wondered how he won this prize when there was still so much segregation. 'How Long, Not L...The Civil Rights Movement peaked in 1965 with an event that came to be known as Bloody Sunday, the first attempt to march from Selma to Montgomery. Local police attacked the 600 marchers, but the protestors persisted and on their third attempt, they completed the long march. 'I've Been to th..."I've Been to the Mountaintop" is the last speech MLK gave before he was assassinated in 1968. MLK spoke mostly about the Memphis Sanitation Strike. The strike occurred because of the terrible mistreatment, discrimination, and accidental deaths at the workplace of African-American sanitation workers. In the speech, MLK pleaded for non-violent protests, better working conditions and for unity. The speech also seemed very prophetic as his closing statement discussed the likelihood of an untimely death. MLK was assassinated the day after this speech, but his words inspired people forever. —XFINITY Entertainment Staff
