Many of Hollywood’s leading men skirted their patriotic responsibilities and never went to war. Jimmy Stewart was the exception. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force Reserve, eventually achieving the rank of Brigadier General in 1959. Stewart actively participated in battle, never seeking publicity for his service. After 27 years, Stewart retired from the Air Force on May 31, 1968. —XFINITY Entertainment Staff
