BEST 10. 'Missio...Tom's fourth outing as super-spy Ethan Hunt turned out to be his best. While it's obviously no Shakespeare, the film breathed new life into the wavering franchise with spectacular effects and breathtaking action sequences. —XFINITY Entertainment Staff (Photo: Paramount)

BEST 9. 'War of ...Steven Spielberg's impressive alien thriller was a visual achievement and highly entertaining. This 2005 film also marked one of the only times Cruise has played a father on film. —XFINITY Entertainment Staff (Photo: DreamWorks)

BEST 8. 'Born on...The second film in Oliver Stone's Vietnam War trilogy, "Born" (1989) is based on the autobiography of veteran Ron Kovic. Cruise earned his first Oscar nomination for his brilliant portrayal of Kovic, a teenage soldier turned anti-war activist. —XFINITY Entertainment Staff (Photo: Universal)

BEST 7. 'Rain Ma...Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise push each other to new heights as an autistic man and his scheming brother, respectively. A witty script and superb direction by Barry Levinson make this 1988 flick a classic. —XFINITY Entertainment Staff (Photo: United Artists)

BEST 6. 'Minorit...Another Spielberg-Cruise triumph, "Minority Report" is wildly imaginative, packed with suspense and thoroughly satisfying from beginning to end. This 2002 film is arguably Cruise's best action flick. —XFINITY Entertainment Staff (Photo: Fox)

BEST 5. 'A Few G...This 1992 film combines the direction of Rob Reiner, the writing of Aaron Sorkin and the acting of Tom Cruise, Demi Moore and Jack Nicholson to make a movie classic. Based on the Sorkin play of the same name, "Men" proved that Cruise, who was just 30 years old at the time, could pull off serious adult roles. —XFINITY Entertainment Staff (Photo: Columbia)

BEST 4. 'Collate...Tom Cruise's best performance of the past decade came in a role we don't often see him playing: villain. As a vicious killer-for-hire named Vincent, the actor reminded audiences how versatile he can be with an intense and boiling portrayal. To boot, Cruise ditched his typically clean-cut, baby-faced visage for greying hair and a stubbly beard. Co-starring Jamie Foxx and directed by Michael Mann, "Collateral" (2004) is a fantastically mind-bending thriller. —XFINITY Entertainment Staff (Photo: DreamWorks)

BEST 3. 'The Col...If there was any doubting Tom Cruise's star power (or acting chops), this 1986 sequel to "The Hustler" proved critics wrong. Directed by Martin Scorsese, "Money" starred Paul Newman, who reprised his role as pool hustler, and Cruise as his protege. Newman won an Oscar for his role, while Cruise received praise for his spirited turn as a borderline antagonist. —XFINITY Entertainment Staff (Photo: Touchstone)

BEST 2. 'Jerry M...Tom Cruise received an Oscar nomination for his role as a troubled sports agent in this 1996 Cameron Crowe film. "Jerry Maguire" showcases one of Tom's purest acting performances, and easily his best dramatic turn of the last 20 years. —XFINITY Entertainment Staff (Photo: TriStar)

BEST 1. 'Risky B...If "Jerry Maguire" is the gem of Tom's latter career, "Risky Business" is the crown jewel of his first 10 years in Hollywood. A decade-defining film, "Risky Business" is to the '80s what "American Pie" is to the '90s, but the former did it with less raunch and clever social commentary. While "Top Gun" often gets credit for pushing Tom Cruise into public consciousness, "Risky Business" (and a certain underwear dance) made him a star. —XFINITY Entertainment Staff (Photo: WB)

WORST 10. 'Missi...Though "M:I-2" was a decent action flick, director John Woo failed to give this 2000 sequel a decent plot (or almost anything of real narrative substance) to support his massive stunt sequences, leaving Cruise wallowing in two hours of explosions. —XFINITY Entertainment Staff (Photo: Paramount)

WORST 9. 'Eyes W...Some critics consider "Eyes Wide Shut," Stanley Kubrick's final film, a masterful conclusion to the filmmaker's celebrated career. Others believe it stained his legacy. "Eyes Wide Shut" (1999) is a bizarre, plodding erotic thriller, made even more unusual by the fact that its stars — Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman — were married at the time. At times, the couple's real-life relationship made the weird stuff on the screen... well, extra creepy. —XFINITY Entertainment Staff (Photo: WB)

WORST 8. 'Top Gu..."Top Gun" may be an '80s classic, but beyond the modern day nostalgia for Maverick, Goose, Iceman and shirtless beach volleyball lies an overly dramatic exploration of bromance set to Kenny Loggins music. The flight sequences are great, but "Top Gun" flounders on land. —XFINITY Entertainment Staff (Photo: Paramount)

WORST 7. 'All th..."All the Right Moves" chose all the wrong cliches and packed them into this bleak 1983 film about high school football and romance. Lea Thompson shines (as she so often does) as Cruise's girlfriend, but Craig T. Nelson as a football coach — who's gonna buy that? —XFINITY Entertainment Staff (Photo: Fox)

WORST 6. 'Knight...Compared to Tom Cruise's previous summer action movies, this 2010 flick was a ho-hum shoot'em-up masquerading as a big box office blockbuster. This film lacks originality, fails to find chemistry between Cruise and Cameron Diaz and laughs in the face of everything that makes other spy films work. —XFINITY Entertainment Staff (Photo: Fox)

WORST 5. 'Days o...If you don't like NASCAR and don't like "Top Gun," you will not like "Days of Thunder." Like "Top Gun," this dramatized take on car racing uses an all-too-familiar Cruise movie formula involving rookies, mentors and overcoming fear to "be the best." Again, it fails. —XFINITY Entertainment Staff (Photo: Paramount)

WORST 4. 'Vanill...Based on the Spanish film "Open Your Eyes," this 2001 Cameron Crowe film is an epic misstep for both the filmmaker and his leading man. "Vanilla Sky" aims to be a slick, sexy, sci-fi thriller, but only succeeds in confusing the audience with an incoherent story, abominable pacing and an all-too-pretentious tone for such a big-budget mess. Even worse, Cruise's performance is, at best, sub-par. —XFINITY Entertainment Staff (Photo: Paramount)

WORST 3. 'Lions ...This box office flop had the star power of Meryl Streep, Robert Redford and Tom Cruise, but offered a plot and dialogue as boring as Sunday morning political commentary. "Lions for Lambs" (2007) aims to make a statement on the wars in the Middle East, but comes off as preachy, pretentious and, again, incredibly boring. —XFINITY Entertainment Staff (Photo: United Artists)

WORST 2. 'Cockta...If you don't like bartenders and you don't like "Top Gun," you will not like "Cocktail." This time, a rookie bartender learns the tricks of the trade (via sweet '80s movie montage) from a seasoned vet, and soon becomes the master. Everything about this movie stinks, from its plot to its awful dialogue (i.e. "Coughlin's Laws") and even worse acting. It's amazing that Cruise made this film the same year (1988) as "Rain Man." —XFINITY Entertainment Staff (Photo: Buena Vista)

WORST 1. 'Losin'...What do you get when three high school students drive to Tijuana, Mexico in hopes of losing their virginity to prostitutes? Tom Cruise's worst movie ever! This 1983 film starred a baby-faced Cruise, Jackie Earle Haley and John Stockwell as the friends, while Shelley Long plays a jilted wife along for the ride. "Losin' It" is a teen comedy of the lowest kind, only worth watching to see a shy 21-year-old Tommy trudge through trite dialogue, or to hear the amazing '80s movie theme song by the Jeff Alan Band. If only this movie were as fun as the poster. —XFINITYEntertainment Staff (Photo: Embassy Pictures)
