Inspirations Behind Film's Favorite Characters

Travis Bickle in 'Taxi Driver'

The inspiration behind Robert De Niro’s Travis Bickle in the 1976 film "Taxi Driver" was Arthur Bremer, the man sentenced to 53 years in prison for shooting Alabama Gov. George C. Wallace in 1972. At the time of the assassination attempt, Bremmer was wearing dark sunglasses and a pin in support of Wallace, an outfit very similar to Bickle’s wardrobe in the film. —Xfinity Entertainment Staff
