Best & Worst Movie Adaptations

2. BEST: 'The Shawshank Redemption'

Based around Stephen King's "Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption," this 1994 drama stars Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman as fellow inmates who befriend each other and eventually reconnect as free men. Although the film initially had modest box office numbers, critics loved it and it eventually saw widespread success in home video and re-releases. Interestingly enough, the main character, "Red," is a red-haired Irishman in the novel, but director Frank Darabont couldn't see the character as anyone else but Morgan Freeman. We are certainly not complaining — the cool, calm and collected actor stole the show and made "Shawshank" a classic! —Xfinity Entertainment Staff (Photo: Columbia)
