The actor felt Kaye did not honor writer Carl Lund’s script and was unhappy with the outcome. "I was upset with that. I really was. Edward Norton famously sparred with the director during the filming of “American History X” after Kaye attempted to cut the 200-hour shoot down to 87 minutes. Norton stepped in as editor and Kay removed his name from the movie, telling Entertainment Weekly that the actor was “a narcissistic dilettante” who “raped” the film.
