Significant African-American Women in Entertainment

Gina Prince-Bythewood

The 2000 Independent Spirit Award for Best First Screenplay went to Gina Prince-Bythewood for "Love and Basketball," which she not only wrote but directed, too. Gina Prince-Bythewood’s next big success was when she directed "The Secret Life of Bees," a film adapted from the best-selling book by Sue Monk Kidd. It debuted at the 2008 Toronto International Film Festival and won the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Motion Picture. —XFINITY Entertainment Staff
