BeyonceThere’s nothing this drop-dead gorgeous diva can’t do. Beyonce’s singing and acting skills have led her to be nominated for 529 different awards, of which she has won 185 of them. Her career kick-started in 1990s when she became the lead singer of the girl group "Destiny's Child." However, Beyonce has become one of the best-selling artists of all time once she debuted her solo album in 2003 "Dangerously in Love." Nicki MinajNicki Minaj’s career boomed right after she released her first studio album in 2010, “Pink Friday.” She had seven singles on the “Billboard Hot 100” at the same time, making her the first female solo artist to achieve that incredible feat. Minaj’s second album was released in 2012 and it sold one million albums worldwide making it one of the best-selling that year and her third album may be released later this year. Not only is she a talented singer, but Minaj’s outlandish style has made her a fashion icon all over the world. Aretha FranklinKnown as the "Queen of Soul," Aretha Franklin’s career has lasted over 50 years, which has led her to sell over 75 million records worldwide and win numerous awards including 20 Grammys. Her songs vary from gospel, jazz, R&B, pop, blues, rock, and funk. Natalie ColeDaughter of the legendary jazz musician Nat King Cole, Natalie has won nine awards out of her 21 Grammy nominations. Immediately after Cole rose to fame in 1976, she was recognized as best new artist, and her song "This Will Be" won best female R&B vocal performance. However, Cole went through a rough phase where her sales weren't high and she was heavily addicted to drugs. Ruby DeeSome of the many awards Ruby Dee has won are Grammys, Emmys, and Screen Actors Guild Lifetime Achievement Awards. Her most notable works have been “A Raisin in the Sun” and “American Gangster.” Dee has also tried her hand at poetry, playwriting, screenwriting, journalism, and most successfully, activism. She was also good friends with both Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcom X. Diana RossThis incredibly talented singer and actress whose career has spanned over 50 years has won seven American Music Awards, a Tony Award, and she was the first African-American woman to win a Golden Globe award. Ross is one of the very few artists who has two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame; one as a solo artist and another for her success with her previous band, "The Supremes." She was also included in the “Guinness Book of World Records” in 1993 as the most successful female artist of all-time because of her popularity in the U.S. and the U.K. as she has had an outstanding 70 hit singles. Nine-year-old Quvenzhane Wallis rose to stardom in her role as Hushpuppy in the critically acclaimed film “Beasts of the Southern Wild.” Wallis’ strong personality and excellent acting skills have led her to win 18 awards, and she became the youngest person to receive a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress.
