After winning the award for Best Documentary Feature, “Undefeated” filmmaker TJ Martin stunned the crowd by saying the win was “f****** amazing.” The word went un-bleeped in the Oscars Press Room, getting a huge groan from the attending journalists, but the word was caught by the censors before going out to the masses on delay. Martin was quick to apologize for the gaffe, saying that he “meant no offense” and that the moment “came from the heart.”-David Onda (Photo: Kevin Winter/Getty Images) The opinions expressed are solely those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of Comcast.
12. 'The Dictato...Going into Oscars Sunday, we thought the drama surrounding Sacha Baron Cohen’s costumed appearance at the Academy Awards had been settled. And, essentially, the Academy said, “No way.” Yet, the actor showed up fully dressed as his “Dictator” character General Admiral Alladeen, flanked by two beautiful women and holding the supposed ashes of Kim Kong Il. And then he dumped those ashes on Ryan Seacrest. And the red carpet. Until, finally, security took the urn away.-David Onda (Photo: Michael Buckner/Getty Images) The opinions expressed are solely those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of Comcast.
11. Angelina Jol...Few stars made as much of an Oscars impact as one of Angelina Jolie’s appendages. The “Salt” star strutted onto the stage to present last night and, in one jaw-dropping moment, dipped her hip revealing the sky-high slit in her dress. Moments later, while accepting the award for Best Adapted Screenplay, screenwriter (and “Community” star) Jim Rash struck the same pose, sending the crowd into a fit of laughter. Later, Rash called the moment “an impulse.”-David Onda (Photo: Ethan Miller/Getty Images) The opinions expressed are solely those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of Comcast.
10. 'Hugo' Wins ...Sure, it was a great film, but no one expected “Hugo” to win five Oscars - the same number as the night’s Best Picture, “The Artist.” Martin Scorsese’s 3D family film took home awards for Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, Visual Effects, Cinematography and Art Direction.-David Onda (Photo: Paramount Pictures) The opinions expressed are solely those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of Comcast.
9. 'The Help' Do...Going into Oscars night, there were two clear favorites: “The Artist” and “The Help.” But when it was all said and done, only Octavia Spencer took home a statue (for Best Supporting Actress) while the film was left out in the cold in all other categories.-David Onda (Photo: Dreamworks) The opinions expressed are solely those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of Comcast.
8. 'In Memoriam'...Before the 2012 “In Memoriam” segment, which honors the members of the film industry who passed away in the last year, the audience was asked to hold their applause until the end of the segment out of respect for the individuals. Normally, each person gets applause with a varying degree of enthusiasm, depending on how recognizable they are. But, this year, that changed - thanks in part to the live musical performance by Esperanza Spalding and a clean, classy video package that nearly cut all film clips from the montage. The audience waited until the very end to clap.-David Onda (Photo: Kevin Winter/Getty Images) The opinions expressed are solely those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of Comcast.
7. Woody Allen's...Sure, this shouldn’t seem like a surprise, considering he never comes to award shows, but you couldn’t help but wonder if he’d make an exception for Hollywood’s biggest night. Sure enough, Woody no-showed. Sure enough, Woody won an Oscar. The famed director will eventually take home (after they mail it to him, I guess) the trophy for Best Original Screenplay. -David Onda (Photo: Cindy Ord/Getty Images) The opinions expressed are solely those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of Comcast.
6. TJ Martin Dro...After winning the award for Best Documentary Feature, “Undefeated” filmmaker TJ Martin stunned the crowd by saying the win was “f****** amazing.” The word went un-bleeped in the Oscars Press Room, getting a huge groan from the attending journalists, but the word was caught by the censors before going out to the masses on delay. 5. Jean Dujardin...No one quite knew what Best Actor winner Jean Dujardin was saying at the end of his acceptance speech. Well, unless you speak French. “The Artist” star capped off his speech with an emotional rant in his native language. The problem? It turns out he dropped the French equivalent of the F-word! Maybe next year the Academy will employ a bilingual censor.-David Onda (Photo: Kevin Winter/Getty Images) The opinions expressed are solely those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of Comcast.
4. Viola Davis' ...Few looks really shocked on Oscars night, but Viola Davis’ youthful close-cropped hair was one of them. The nominated star of “The Help” ditched the wigs in favor of her natural hair. And she looked fabulous.-David Onda (Photo: Michael Buckner/Getty Images) The opinions expressed are solely those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of Comcast.
3. George Cloone...Everyone knew the Best Actor race was between George Clooney and Jean Dujardin, but I don’t think anyone really expected that George would not walk away with the Oscar. Alas, the only golden trophy George took home last night was his girlfriend, Stacy Keibler. Must be tough.-David Onda (Photo: Jason Merritt/Getty Images) The opinions expressed are solely those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of Comcast.
2. Billy Crystal...After last year’s disastrous experiment with dual hosts Anne Hathaway and James Franco, it was nice to get back to something more familiar. Billy Crystal was in true form, rolling out his classic movie parody opening and the monologue song-and-dance number. The biggest surprise, however, came in the form of Crystal’s jokes, which were edgier than most people are used to, but absolutely slayed the audience. In short, Crystal nailed it and left Oscar fans everywhere saying, “Eddie who?-David Onda (Photo: Kevin Winter/Getty Images) The opinions expressed are solely those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of Comcast.
1. Meryl Streep ...It’s an unusual state of affairs when Meryl Streep winning an Oscar is considered a big shock, but that unlikelihood became a reality at the 84th annual Academy Awards. Streep’s movie “The Iron Lady” was not well-received critically, unlike the movies starring fellow nominees Viola Davis (“The Help”) and Michelle Williams (“My Week with Marilyn”), but when it was all said and done, a shocked Streep ended up hoisting the trophy. This was Meryl’s 17th nomination and first win in 20 years. In the Press Room, the actress quipped that she’s worried the world is suffering from “Streep fatigue.” Apparently it’s not.-David Onda (Photo: Jason Merritt/Getty Images) The opinions expressed are solely those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the views of Comcast.
