March means spring, hoops and most importantly, film! CAAMFest –aka the San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival – the nation’s largest showcase of new Asian American and Asian films runs from March 13-23 and will provide a preview of the many films and stars we’ll be hearing more from in the coming months.

This month, Cinema Asian America on Xfinity On Demand presents a mini-retrospective of Dong’s films, a rare opportunity to see several of this influential filmmaker’s works. Included are “Hollywood Chinese” – a historical exploration of the experiences of Chinese American actors, directors and producers.
The 29th annual Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Fest kicks off on May 2, and runs through May 12. One of the premier destinations for Asian and Asian American Cinema, the Festival features more than 140 films and videos as well as a week of panels, workshops, special events and parties.
If you want to know about independent movies, look no further than Geoff Gilmore, the chief creative officer of the Tribeca Film Festival. This year’s festival, now in full swing, is Gilmore’s fourth.
