Big Bird has never been so hot. “Saturday Night Live,” Jimmy Fallon, Piers Morgan, the “Today” show and “Good Morning America” have all asked for appearances from the giant yellow Muppet after he was unexpectedly thrust into the presidential campaign by Mitt Romney on Wednesday.

Elmo will be carrying a tune on “Sesame Street.” A shift in how the popular puppet is deployed marks the most visible change on “Sesame Street,” the children’s program that begins its 43rd season on public television this week.

Jerry Nelson, who voiced “Sesame Street” characters including Count von Count during more than 40 years with the show, has died, the show said.

“Sesame Street” continues to gain “Street” cred with their adorably witty spoofs of pop culture, and in their latest effort they take on NBC’s “The Voice.”
