Ashley Judd and some savvy ABC scheduling personnel joined forces to hand the network something it’s been missing on Thursday nights — a possible, new hit series.

We were happy to see “Community” come back last night, and it was refreshing that the show came back with an episode that wasn’t all meta, and didn’t wink at its viewers and go, “did ya miss us?”

A streak of self-loathing in Dan Harmon is likely what fuels “Community” to achieve the comedic heights it does, but while the show has been on hiatus, its creator has been under more self-induced stress than ever.

Are you getting giddy about “Community” coming back next Thursday? We are, and we got even more giddy when NBC released a mew trailer. It does a great job of showing just what kind of weird and fun things are going to be facing the “Greendale Seven” in the second half of the season.

NBC is making a mini-push to promote the return of “Community” next Thursday, and part of it is a series of animated shorts called “Abed’s Master Key.”

When “Community” comes back — and the NBC brass do promise that it’s “when,” not “if” — there’s at least one thing we know for certain will happen: one of the regulars on the show will meet his demise.
