2 States” is a romantic adventure that makes you believe in the power of love, starring an impressive cast including Alia Bhatt and Arjun Kapoor. While the buzz has been already high over their relationship off screen, one can definitely vouch for their splendid chemistry, on-screen! “2 States” is directed by Abhishek Verman and is based on Chetan Bhaghat‘s novel with the same name.

“2 States” tells the story of Krish Malhotra (Arjun Kapoor) and Ananya Swaminathan (Alia Bhatt), who meet in college, at IIM Ahmedabad and fall in love. Complications arise when they decide to get married, as the two belong to different states of India: Krish is a North Indian Punjabi boy from Delhi, while Ananya is a Tamil Brahmin girl from Chennai. They agree to not marry until their parents consent.

Debutant director Abhishek Verman stays faithful to Chetan Bhagat’s bestseller, adapting it delightfully for the big screen. The diverse cultures represented, the discomfort and the pressures of talking about inter-caste relations, and the unyielding love and the resolve to win a parents’ trust, are captured meticulously. Verman also allows us to peep into the mindset of the two families, highlighting the doubts that arise in such a scenario, yet he makes sure he doesn’t belittle or demean any community in the process.

Be sure to catch “2 States,” available this month with XFINITY On Demand. Here are my top five reasons why!

1. When North Meets South
“2 States” is not a typical Bollywood romantic film of individuals from the same background falling in love. Rather it is an unusual journey of a gutsy North Indian boy falling in love with a beautiful South Indian girl. Bollywood breaks the stereotype!

2. A Fresh Pair
Another reason to watch this much-awaited film is undoubtedly is its stars, Alia Bhatt and Arjun Kapoor. Kapoor steals the show with an effortless, charming and convincing portrayal. He is going to surprise a lot of people with this film, for sure. Alia Bhatt proves yet again that she doesn’t need dialogue to communicate; her eyes and expressions do the talking. Also, after last year’s hit “Highway,” Alia gets yet another complex character to prove her vigor and she does a superb job of interpreting her character with poise.

3. Steamy Intimate Scenes
With its two appealing stars, “2 States” has enough of intimate scenes to keep any audience member glued to the screen throughout. In fact, the trailer itself offers a full-fledged treat with several lip locks and hot proximity between the two, so need we say more?

4. The Karan Johar Effect
Producer Karan Johar’s films are known for being high on romance and entertainment. As a signature KJO film, with “2 States” audience can expect a high quality experience!

5. The supporting cast is consistently first-rate
Ronit Roy sparkles in a difficult-to-portray character, while Amrita Singh is terrific as the dominating mother, a role she enacts so wonderfully, she deserves special praise. Revathy leaves a stamp every time she appears on screen, and Shiv Subramanyam hits just the right note as Alia’s father.
