“Faking It,” ‘Pretty Little Liars’ and Out Web Star Tyler Oakley Win In Teen Choice Awards

The Teen Choice 2014 Awards were handed out yesterday in Los Angeles at the Shrine Auditorium with the best and brightest in television, film and music were awarded. The show was hosted by “Teen Wolf” star Tyler Posey and “Modern Family” star Sarah Hyland. 

In terms of television, several winners have LGBT characters or performers on the show and one, MTV’s “Faking It,” is built around a pair of high school best friends (Rita Volk and Katie Stevens) who pretend to be gay to be more popular. Besides Volk and Stevens, cast members Michael Willett and Gregg Sulkin were also on hand.

ABC Family’s “Pretty Little Liars,” which has the lesbian character of Emily (Shay Mitchell) among its core cast, received awards for Best Drama, Best Actor in a Drama (Ian Harding) and Best Actress in a Drama (Lucy Hale). Hottie Ian Somerhalder took home the Best Actor in a Sci-Fi/Fantasy show for CW’s “The Vampire Diaries.” Teen Wolf” fan favorite Dylan O’Brien also won for Best Villain and his co-star Tyler Hoechlin won for Best Male Scene Stealer.

Also, out LGBT activist/web star Tyler Oakley received awards for Choice Web Star and Choice Web Collaboration with Troye Sivan for their ‘The Boyfriend Tag’ video.
