The first major storm of the rainy season hit the Philippines on July 15, 2014. Like any natural calamity, no preparation can withstand the brutal force of a strong typhoon. With winds at 170 kilometers per hour, Typhoon Rammusan first made landfall in Sorsogon and continued to move northwest through the rest of the Bicol region, then Southern and Central Luzon.

Rammusan left a trail of destruction in all the provinces it crossed including Metro Manila leaving at least 40 dead and 5 missing as of the latest reports. More than 88 million individuals affected from Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Bicol region, Samar and Leyte and thousands are in evacuation centers.

ABS-CBN Foundation International, through its disaster relief and rehabilitation program Sagip Kapamilya (Family Rescue), has started its rescue operations in the affected areas.
