The BET Awards has had some memorable moments over the years.

A few of my favorites include legendary group Earth, Wind & Fire receiving the 2002 BET Lifetime Achievement Award and Michael Jackson presenting James Brown with his Lifetime Achievement Award the following year. And, yes, host Mo’Nique and her “big girls” opening up the show by dancing to Beyonce’s “Crazy In Love” and “Deja Vu” in 2004 and 2007, respectively, were definitely unforgettable.

I am curious to see what one of my favorite comedians, Chris Rock, has planned tonight as this year’s host as well as the live performances, including the tribute to this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, Tuskegee, Ala.’s own, Lionel Richie. He’s been making surprise appearances at comedy clubs around Los Angeles in preparation for his hosting duties so we could get anything.

The 2014 BET Awards will air live from the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles today at 8 p.m. ET on BET. The complete list of nominees are included below. Be sure to check www.CelebrateBlackTV.com for more highlights.
