The Blend: ‘Kidnapped For Christ’ On Showtime And Jon Stewart’s ‘Gaywatch: Texas Edition’

Brendan Fehr in 'Night Shift' (NBC)

The Night Shift:” While we’ve been watching (somewhat impatiently) at the closeted-ness of Dr. Drew (Brendan Fehr) on NBC’s new medical drama, we’ll finally meet his better half, Rick, played by none other than Luke Macfarlane, best known for his role of Scotty on “Brothers & Sisters.” Will having Rick back in his life bring Drew out of the closet finally? Find out when the episode airs on July 1st.

“Kidnapped For Christ”: An important documentary is coming to Showtime next month chronicling the truth behind “Escuela Caribe,” a controversial Christian behavior modification program in the Dominican Republic. In the film, we find that ‘troubled’ teens are sent there to be reformed but what evangelical filmmaker Kate Logan found is that the sunny facade of the school is anything but. The film, executive produced by Lance Bass, Mike C. Manning and Tom DeSanto, airs July 10th at 7:30pm on Showtime.

The Daily Show With Jon Stewart:” Leave it to Jon Stewart to put just the right spin (along with some laughs) on the resurgence of gay reparative therapy in this week’s ‘Gaywatch: Texas Addition: Remember The No-Homo”‘ segment.

“The Returned” is busy casting it’s US version of the French zombie drama and AfterEllen.com reports that the show has cast its lesbian characters.

Cheyenne Jackson lands a new gig…while we wait to see if Ryan Murphy’s pilot “Open” (where Jackson has a role) gets picked up to series at HBO, TVFanatic reports he’s landed a guest role on the long-running USA series, “Royal Pains.” Jackson will also be seeing playing a gay cop in the upcoming indie “Love Is Strange,” which stars Alfred Molina and John Lithgow as a gay couple. And if you missed my red carpet chat with Jackson and fiance Jason Landau at Monday’s TrevorLive event, check out the video here.

Allstate Insurance’s LGBT Campaign: Yes, gay people need insurance, too, and Allstate released a video targeting that very audience. Here it is…

Kimpton Hotel & Restaurant’s Summer Of Pride: If you’re traveling this summer, seek out the nearest Kimpton property and, using a special discount code for LGBT patrons, you can save 10% AND provide a donation to The Trevor Project. In fact, the hotel chain is partnered with the organization and had a kick-off party at the Eventi property in NYC this Spring. In case you missed it, here’s some footage from that event, which featured Jeremy Jordan.

Logo’s Trailblazers Event: The June 26th event is bringing more star power with International Pop Star Sia performing her smash hit “Chandelier” backed by…wait for it…the NYC Gay Men’s Chorus. The performance will take place at the stunningly beautiful Cathedral of St. John Divine in NYC.  Also in the show, former R.E.M frontman Michael Stipe will honor Ugandan gay rights activist and refugee John “Long Jones” Abdallah Wambere as an ‘International Trailblazer’ for his work with Spectrum Uganda Initiatives, an organization that advocates for LGBT rights and provides health and education services. Other performances include Demi Lovato, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Great Big World and Pete Wentz as well as appearances by Daniel Radcliffe, Jared Leto, Kylie Minogue, Ariana Grande, Rita Ora, Tegan and Sara, Laura Jane Grace and more. (Logo Trailblazers airs June 26th at 9pm on Logo).
