Starz’s freshman show “Power” barely made it through its first week before the network announced it would return next year.
The crime drama stars Omari Hardwick as James “Ghost” St. Patrick, a married father of three who also happens to be one of New York City’s biggest drug dealers. In an attempt to go straight and abandon that life, he opens a nightclub but faces some push-back from those closest to him.
Showrunner Courtney Kemp Agboh, the creative mind behind “Power,” along with fellow executive producers Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Mark Canton, David Knoller and Randall Emmett will return for the sophomore season, according to a Starz press release.
“Viewers may be loving the start of season one now, but season two will blow them away,” says 50 Cent, who also stars as Ghost’s imprisoned mentor Kanan.
Along with Hardwick and 50 Cent, “Power” stars Joseph Sikora as Ghost’s childhood friend and business partner Tommy, Naturi Naughton as his wife Tasha, Lela Loren as his childhood crush Angela, Debbi Morgan as his mother-in-law and Victor Garber as successful nightclub owner Simon Stern. La La Anthony also guest stars as Tasha’s BFF. Production on the second season, which will include 10 episodes, up from the current season’s eight, will begin in New York City and Brooklyn in September.
50 Cent, Agboh, Hardwick and Sikora talked with XFINITY about the show and why viewers would be glad they tuned in. Watch those interviews and watch “Power’s” pilot episode below. “Power” airs Saturdays at 9 p.m. EST. Watch it here.
