Did MTV’s ‘Faking It’ Drop The Lesbian Ball? One Critic Thinks So.

[Spoiler Alert: Only read on if you have watched the first season finale of the MTV series, "Faking It."]

If you’ve followed my TV coverage here and other sites I work with, you know I’ve been a huge fan of the new MTV comedy “Faking It” and have helped spread the word on it, talking to the entire cast and out creator Carter Covington.

However, the first season finale, which aired last night, has some wondering if the twist in the finale – that Amy (Rita Volk), who has spent the season leaning more and more towards being a lesbian, ends up sleeping with Liam (Gregg Sulkin) who has been the love interest of Karma (Katie Stevens), who Amy really wants to be with. Follow that?

Trish Bendix, managing editor of the leading lesbian website AfterEllen.com, wrote a piece about the finale for The Hollywood Reporter, eloquently laying out why she feels MTV and “Faking It’ dropped the ball in portraying a lesbian character once again.
