It’s the weekend and I’ve gathered some of the hottest news happening in black entertainment such as Lupita Nyong’o landing a major cosmetics contract, Marie Claire and Black Twitter bumping heads and Tracy Morgan’s latest project. Plus check out what’s hot (and what’s not) and my weekend watchlist.

Lupita is the new face of Lancome. We all knew it would be a matter of time before Hollywood darling Lupita Nyong’o would be tapped to rep a major beauty brand. Lancome announced that the “Mexican-born Kenyan will be the first black ambassador for the brand, which features Julia Roberts, Kate Winslet, Penelope Cruz and Lily Collins as spokeswomen,” according to the Associated Press. Good for her! This news comes on the heels of L’Oreal tapping Zoe Saldana as its face and Caress announcing that Kelly Rowland would be its spokeswoman. Late last year, Neutrogena named Kerry Washington as its brand ambassador. It only makes sense, as black women use these and many more cosmetics and skincare brands. Who should be next? Bobbi Brown Cosmetics. Sure, Katie Holmes reps it but I know a lot of sistas who use Bobbi Brown (my sisters and I included) and it’d be nice to see women who look like us in the ads. Just a thought. Marie Claire apologizes for Kendall Jenner braids faux pas. On Tuesday, the women’s magazine posted a photo of Kendall Jenner with six cornrows braided on the side of her head with the caption: “Kendall Jenner takes bold braids to a new epic level: http://marie.cl/60199BHv  pic.twitter.com/Cgp7X8CfNg.” Letting out a deep sigh was really all I could do after seeing that post. Cute? Sure. “Bold” and “epic”? Chile, please.  I mean, aside from celebrities like Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Brandy, Jill Scott, India.Arie and Oprah, we’ve seen black girls and their mothers, sisters and aunts rocking braids for years. YEARS. (Haven’t you seen the Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs?) While I kept my thoughts to myself, much of Black Twitter didn’t. Black Twitter (hilariously) blasted the magazine for its poor word choice. You can read those tweets here. That, along with the media attention that followed, undoubtedly led Marie Claire to issue an apology:  ”We didn’t mean to offend or imply that cornrows were new. Our tweet was poorly worded…We thought her hair looked great and recognize women have been styling their hair like this for ages.” Is this something to be angry over? Not at all. But I understand why people called the mag out. Too often things associated with black people, particularly black women, go unnoticed or may even be criticized when they do it. But when a nonblack person, particularly someone who is white, does those same things it’s then championed as “bold” and “epic” or makes headlines.  You know, like how Miley Cyrus invented twerking, Kim Kardashian is the first woman to have a big butt  or Angelina Jolie is the first woman to have ever had full lips. It gives the impression that black people are insignificant. If this keeps up, I’m pretty much convinced that 100 years from now, Oprah Winfrey, Jay Z and Michael Jordan will be portrayed as white. FXX orders Tracy Morgan’s comedy series. I just had a conversation yesterday about Tracy Morgan and what he had going on. Nothing, we concluded. Well, FXX, which axed “Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell” in November, decided to gamble on another brotha. The network has “given a straight-to-series order to a comedy series starring Morgan, from “It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia” creators Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day and Glenn Howerton and “Sunny” writer Luvh Rakhe,” reports Deadline.com. Hmm, I’ll be curious to see what they come up with. I hope this role will be more palatable (for me) than his “30 Rock” character Tracy Jordan, who just got on my nerves. Read more here.

On my watchlist? What I’m tuning in to see and what I’ll catch up with XFINITY On Demand…
“Game of Thrones”: FINALLY! I’ve been binge-watching the past three seasons (I’ve seen them before), prepping for Sunday’s big premiere. It airs at 9 p.m. EST on HBO. Watch it here.
“House of Lies”: The season finale airs Sunday. How will this episode top the last couple? Guess we have to tune in and see. It airs at 10 p.m. EST on Showtime. Watch it here.
“Resurrection”: I’m hanging in there with this one but things need to pick up quick. A girl does have other options. It airs at 9 p.m. EST on ABC. Watch it here.

The Hot List: Who/What’s Hot, Not
HOT: WE tv’s “Mary Mary” star Erica Campbell is penning a children’s book (Good for her and all of the little kiddies who’ll read it).
NOT: Chris Brown–the fact that he has to be taken into custody by U.S. Marshals… (Lighting a candle for him…)

HOT: Brandy and the beautiful natural afro she rocked on “The Queen Latifah Show” and in her Instagram photos (She looks marvelous!).
NOT: Levy Thamba Pongi, a Congolese exchange student who jumped to his death after eating a marijuana cookie (*sigh*)
