Oprah Winfrey’s unloading famed real estate, “Key & Peele” stars covering Time and why Lupita Nyong’o's new moniker should be girl on fire are some of hot topics people are chatting about today. Keep reading for more details.
Key and Peele cover Time mag. Comedy Central’s dynamic duo just got hotter. In the magazine’s “The Ideas Issue,”"Key & Peele” stars Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele talk about their aversion to political correctness. “Today it seems that we live in a world of extremes. On one end of the spectrum, we have anonymous Internet trolls looking for opportunities to dole out cruelty with impunity. But in mainstream culture, it often seems we’re drowning in a sea of political correctness that lapped up on our shores a couple of decades ago and has yet to recede,” they said. I’m glad somebody spoke on it. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great that people are attempting to move about with more awareness. But, c’mon, we all know that most of the time, it’s a ruse. Often times people’s PC behavior is insincere, with them still privately harboring the same distasteful and/or hate-filled attitudes they pretend to abhor. You know I speak the truth … Anyway, if you haven’t checked out “Key & Peele,” be sure to here. They’re pretty funny. Also, read more from the Time article here.
Oprah Winfrey’s selling Harpo Studios. The billionairess is selling the four-building, 3.5 acre property her production company’s called home for 24 years to developer Sterling Bay, according to the Associated Press. “We expect the transaction to be closed in 30 days. The property will be leased back to Harpo for two years and the studio will continue to produce programming for OWN,” the AP quoted Crain’s Chicago Business, who broke the story. As a Chicago native, I confess that this is a bit of sad news. Harpo Studios and “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” which was taped in the space until its 2011 end, has afforded the city a certain cache similar to what was done by another iconic figure, Michael Jordan. Will she get a bigger space on the West Coast, where OWN’s offices are headquartered? We have to see. Read more here.
Lupita Nyong’o to star in “Star Wars: Episode VII”? Word on the street is that the Academy Award-winning actress is being considered for a leading role in the upcoming film. “Sources say that Nyong’o met with J.J. Abrams only a few weeks ago, just before the Academy Awards where she took home the statuette for best supporting actress for her work in ’12 Years a Slave,’” according to The Hollywood Reporter. Oscar curse? What Oscar curse? If true, this would be great for her and could continue to open the door for black women in sci-fi roles that “Star Trek’s” Nichelle Nichols busted open decades ago.
