The future of Hollywood is looking bright for Hispanics proving their power at the box office and on the big screen. Jorge Diaz, who most recently flexed both his dramatic and comedic muscle in “Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones,” has landed the role of “Igor Proestakis” in “The 33,” according to TheWrap.com. The film chronicles the headline-grabbing accident that saw 33 miners in Chile trapped underground for 69 days in 2010.

Diaz will portray the real-life engineer brought onto the site, who help designed a solution that ultimately aided in rescuing the miners. The 24-year-old Chilean engineer designed an open metal jaw with teeth-like edges that could be lowered into the shaft to surround the broken fragments of hammer and bring them up to the surface.

He joins an all-star cast already announced including Antonio Banderas, Martin Sheen, Rodrigo Santoro, Juliette Binoche, and Gabriel Byrne. Production on the film has already begun, with Diaz set to commence shooting in Chile next week.

The 30-year-old has made guest appearances on “Raising Hope,” “True Blood,” and “The Secret Life of the American Teenager.”
