Happy new year and welcome to 2014! I’ve already started taking down my Christmas tree and holiday decorations. Yes, being more organized and taking care of things around the house more is one of my resolutions so I figured today would be the perfect time to start. January is an exciting time for television fans because a lot of your favorite shows are coming back and many new shows are getting ready to debut. So while you start working on your new exercise routines, getting rid of clutter, or trying out new recipes, you can start catching up or re-watching shows so you’re ready when they return.

Tonight, Penny (newlywed Kaley Cuoco) makes her acting debut on “The Big Bang Theory” at 8pm on CBS. Things don’t go as planned for her when she stars on “NCIS,” but good ol’ Leonard (Johnny Galecki) will be there ready to help. Will this convince Penny to finally propose?

Also starting at 8pm, “The Taste” returns with a new 2-hour format on ABC. Chef Anthony Bourdain, Nigella Lawson, Chef Ludo Lefebvre and Chef Marcus Samuelsson will serve as judges and “mentors” to sixteen competitors, both professional and amateur cooks, who will compete as teams and individuals to win the top spot. At the end of each episode, the mentors will have to judge the competitors’ dishes blind, with no knowledge of whose creation they’re sampling, what they’re eating, how it was prepared or whom they could be sending home.

Are you in need a laugh? Comedy Central is airing “Gabriel Iglesias: I’m Not Fat, I’m Fluffy” and “Gabriel Iglesias: Aloha Fluffy” starting at 9pm. Stand-up comedian Gabriel Iglesias (“Magic Mike”) talks about life on the road, working with George Lopez, and his relationship with his girlfriend’s son.

On January 19th, Gabriel joins Liam Neeson, Will Arnett, and Katherine Heigl as voices in the animated film, “The Nut Job.” Directed by Peter Lepeniotis, the film follows “Surly” a mischievous squirrel who must plan a heist to get into his town’s biggest nut shop in order to help his pals in the park gather food to survive the winter. Together with his sidekicks, he will assemble a rag-tag crew to help him get inside – and take them on a fun filled adventure that they will never forget.
